These honey and cumin sweet potato fries are so easy to make and totally delicious. Baking them in the oven brings out their natural sweetness, making them perfect as a side dish or for munching on their own with your favourite dip
Sweet potatoes are not potatoes at all and do have several health benefits. They are high in antioxidants, which convert to vitamin A, along with vitamins B and C. Unlike normal potatoes, they can be counted as 1 of your 5 a day fruit and vegetables.
I love potato chips or fries but I do prefer not to deep fry my food too often so baking the chips and making sweet potato fries, means I can have all that crunch without all the calories.

What are the ingredients?
I started off with two large sweet potatoes. There are many different varieties but I used the ones with orange flesh.
You will need
- 800 g sweet potatoes
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp flaked sea salt
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 2 tsp runny honey
- 1 tbsp chopped coriander
How to make the fries
Peel and slice the sweet potatoes. I prefer to cut them quite chunky but you could cut them thinner if you prefer.
In a large food bag place oil, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper and honey. Add the sweet potatoes and mix well. You could easily do this in a large bowl as well.
Either way is great if you want to prepare the sweet potato fries in advance.
Roast on a preheated tray at 180 degrees C for about 15-20 minutes and then carefully turnover for another 15-20 minutes.
Enjoy in the summer as a barbecue side, or on their own at any time with your favourite dip.

Thanks Karen. They would be perfect with steak.
These would make a nice addition to our steak dinner tonight instead of our usual baked potato.
Thanks Aimee
Thanks Pam!
Thanks. They get really sweet and earthy.
Thanks Toni
Oh my goodness! This looks and sounds so delicious!I am a big lover of cumin...definitely making this
I loved it! Quickly became a favorite at my house!
The spices combined with the honey sounds absolutely delicious! Sweet potato fries are my favorite and I too prefer to not fry them so this is going to be a great recipe to try.
I love sweet potato fries but have never tried making them at home. Thanks for the recipe!
That spice mixture is perfect for sweet potatoes! Cannot wait to try!
Thank you.I do this with carrots or swede too. Also good with parsnips and maple syrup. Love all the root veggies!
Love this one. Cumin is one of my favourite spices. Who knew it went so well with honey? I will have to try it out the next time I make sweet potato crisps. xo
I get the same thing. I usually respond on wordpress but have to shift to wordpress.org....
Having problems posting this as a reply on my site, so, I'll try again here ...
It's written, Amanda, I've just got to put it on the schedule. It'll get there, probably this fall. 🙂
I did it with spiralized too but they didn't cook very evenly so they went to my 'unused file' because it wasn't good enough. You will have to post yours now!
I absolutely love sweet potato fries, especially when baked. In fact, I've got a post for spiralized fries languishing in my "to post" file. I've not thought to season them with cumin nor honey, for that matter. I must give them a try but I'll pass on the coriander. Not really a fan although I'm trying to introduce it, leaf by leaf, into some recipes. They jury is still out whether this tact will be at all successful.
Thanks Sheryl. I have to confess that I think it was mostly accidental as I had to get them on the table so we could eat! I am always getting into trouble for taking pictures when it's hot food. 🙂
mmm. . . They look wonderful. I really like how you composed the picture of the fries..
